Here is an excerpt where they shared how they register at their hotels, as they were about to embark on their first tour in three years.

And Adam “MCA” YAUCH – the spiritual seeker – what of him? He registers under the name I. Clouseau, as in Inspector Clouseau, for he is a huge Peter Sellers fan. His favorite Sellers movie is The Party. “He plays an Indian actor,” Yauch says, “and the movie was banned in India because he is playing this bumbling idiot in the middle of all these white people, and some Indian people were insulted by it. But the irony is that he’s really the only intelligent person there – all the other people are morons. So it has a cool theme.”

“I had covered Jobs for Fortune and The Wall Street Journal since 1985, but I didn’t come to fully appreciate the importance of these “lost” years until after his death last fall. Rummaging through the storage shed, I discovered some three dozen tapes holding recordings of extended interviews—some lasting as long as three hours—that I’d conducted with him periodically over the past 25 years. (Snippets are scattered throughout this story.) Many I had never replayed—a couple hadn’t even been transcribed before now. Some were interrupted by his kids bolting into the kitchen as we talked. During others, he would hit the pause button himself before saying something he feared might come back to bite him. Listening to them again with the benefit of hindsight, the ones that took place during that interregnum jump out as especially enlightening.”

You were saving for this time period, you were educating yourself, or you were investing in something that you hoped would pay off by now.

We have a tendency to get ourselves in a constant state of preparation, and we often forget that we were once looking forward to today. Take time to fall out of planning mode for a bit, and reap the benefits of the work you’ve done to get yourself to where you are right now. Otherwise, what’s the point of it all?

Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore announced their separation Friday night, after 27 years of marriage. And while the band plans to proceed with their November tour dates in South America, anything beyond that is uncertain.

“Most fans probably felt a little guilty for how personally we took the sad news, but that’s just because we owe them a lot,” writes Rolling Stone’s Rob Sheffield. “Gordon and Moore have had a huge influence on how so many of us envision monogamy and adulthood. Like everything else about Sonic Youth, their relationship challenged our ideas about what was possible.”
