The Magician
For the past 3 months, we have been exploring the meaning of entrepreneurship and detailing the essential ingredients that would help you become an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs find opportunities and has the ability to turn them into products or services that people are willing to buy. Entrepreneurship therefore is all about creating value to people through creativity, passion, talent, and willingness to take; what other people think as risks. Do you have what it takes to be a RockstarEntrepreneur?
Creativity is not defined by the originality of the result but rather by the value of the result created to other people. Entrepreneurs create NEW ways to solve old problems, or apply old solutions to NEW opportunities. What makes something creative, truly entrepreneurial is the value created by the result. Entrepreneurs create something that others find valuable enough to buy. Otherwise, the result is called art.
Sometimes Entrepreneurs need to be realistic too. In my enterprise, I have business partners and advisors who balance my optimism with a healthy dose of realism. This has prevented a lot of big time failures. Nevertheless, I always keep an optimistic disposition because it ensures that I will always see opportunities that others don’t. Keeping a realistic disposition will often make you miss opportunities, especially the ones that are hard to see. And missing a great opportunity is like missing the train that would lead you to your wildest dreams. Always be Optimistic, but do listen to the realists.Keep an open mind.
Some say that Entrepreneurship is the art of making money. But if it is, then perhaps the crooks and the drug barons, would be the greatest entrepreneurs. Money making is what I would call businessing. Entrepreneurship is more than making money. Bill Gates (Microsoft), Tony Tan Caktiong (Jollibee), and Muhammad Yunus (Grameen Bank) are all rain makers; but there must be something that separates them from the businessmen, gamblers, and thieves. Through out the next few weeks, let us explore the essence of entrepreneurship. And in the process, I hope that you can discover the entrepreneur within.
